NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK REFRESHER AND GLENVANE ' t [fBOM OUR ow.v correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH. Thursday Owing to the recent wet weather, the tracks at New Plymouth ha;e had to be closed twice during the week and the trainers have had to oxercise their teams on the beaches or confine them to road work. It is to be hoped that conditions improve shortly, a? the combined hunts meeting is just over a month off. No success attended the local contingent that made the trip to Trentham, but all the horses have returned in good' order. Refresher failed to handle the going on the opening day and his trainer, R. Barlow, deemed it inadvisable to start him again at the meeting. His stable mate Glenvane ran fairly prominently in two of his races and looks an improved horse. Although Sporting Song failed to earn any stake-money, lie filled fourth place in the six furlongs hack event on the final day. He came through his racing really well and should prove capable of paying his way when the company is less select. He is partial to the soft tracks and will probably be put aside after the spring meetings. The rising two-year-old half-brother, by Captain Bunsby, to Superior' will probably 'join R. Barlow's team after the hunt meetings at the end of next month. He is reported to be a likelylooking sort. Superior has not made the recovery that it was hoped she would and it is probable that the race track has seen the last of her. The Nigger Minstrel —Horomea filly Terry did not return to New Plymouth after the Trentham meeting, but was • left at her owner's place at Sho ran a fair race in the Trial Plate, but failed rather badly on the last day. ARCTIC KING'S DAM J.. WOOD BUYS SNOWLAND Hie Trentham owner-trainer W. J. "Ood, klio hits recently sooted live suecessive wins with Arctic King, marie a 'P to Blenheim .farlv this week to purchase'the dam, Snow land, from Mr. «L fuller, and he has returned with the mare, from whom he will now breed. Snowland's last foal, to Rabbi, proved deformed, but she is again in |°al to the same sire. During the coming season Wood w ill send her to Siegfried. ood has not yet decided in what pents Arctic King will start at the wand National Meeting, but if the C H? £ CK?S °n well,, it is likely that Ae will contest the Winter Cup, in spite. the fact that as a slow beginner he , a J" he under some disadvantage in a field. Wood still holds the gelding lease, but a purchasing clause may 06 exercised at any time.
