STILL VICTORIOUS!

THE WINTER TWO-PIECE NEW LENGTHS FOR COATS [special to N.Z. HERALD —COrYRIOHT] LONDON, Juno 14 The triumph of the two-picco ensemble is complete; it just changes with each season, to suit climatic conditions and one's pursuits. Whether made oil tailored lines or of decorative materials for afternoon, the dress and coat to match have become an indispensable outlit in every busy woman's wardrobe. Too often a coat and skirt, while looking well in the street, are inadequate or unbecoming when separated, even in the house. On the other hand, a complete dress can be worn with a fur tie on warmer days, or with a fur jacket to" make a complete change. Variations in Length The coat of a two-piece-ensemble can vary from the short hip jacket to an almost full-length coat. The seveneighth length, such as I have sketched, is newest for the colder weather, and it looks quite well over a second dark dress that matches the fur trimmings, giving the tunic effect which remains fashionable in all materials.

This type of ensemble made in tweed will give good service in town or country, and the one sketched was in the very fashionable grey and brown mixture, with fur trimmings and accessories in browns. On the other hand, in plain material with a slightly moro elaborate dress, the ensemble would be the complete town outfit. Again, copied in velvet, you have a luxurious afternoon ensemble for weddings or bridge, while the dress beneath could bo so arranged as to suit informal evening functions. An All-Day Dress The tweed dress I have sketched is the comfortable type of garment you could wear all day. It is one of the shirt-waist frocks, with a bow-tie neckline, and needs no trimming except fancv brown buttons and machine stitching. Both the yoke and sleeves, tight below the elbow, are smart features which are prominent in many models just now, while pockets are placed in the most unexpected places. Lower heels and stouter shoes are fashionable, and much more suitable to your present season, with slightly darker stockings. The navy-blue stockings, about which so much was heard at the beginning of the year, have not yet "caught on," but'fashion experts sav they will be the only wear with navy or' grey dresses before the season is finished. Well, we shall see. Certainly, navy shoes and other accessories are on the increase, and are now worn with grey, beige and a deep wine-red, as well as with navy blue.
