THE MILK COUNCIL
STERILISING BOTTLES QUESTION OF REGULATIONS Notice of now regulations to make compulsory the steam sterilisation of all bottles used for the delivery of milk before subsequent use tvas received from the Health Department at a meeting of the Metropolitan Milk Council yesterday. The regulations are similar to those introduced some months ago by the Agriculture Department regarding milk bottled on farms, and are supplementary to them; Differing opinions were expressed by members as to whether the council should adopt the regulations also and enforce them. Some members contended that protection, was necessary, as there had been instances of bottles being refilled on the rounds. Other members claimed that the cost of installing the necessary plant would be too heavy. The matter was referred to the distribution committee for a report. Reporting on the meeting at the Town Hall recently, at which the formation of the .League of Health of New Zealand Youth was approved, the chairman, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, said he had not thought he should act on tho committee, but it was important that tho council should keep in touch with the league's work. Mr. J. S. Montgomerie opposed "the statement made at the meeting that milk could be supplied for 6d a gallon, as 8d would be the lowest possible price. The secretary, Mr. N. R. Chapman, was appointed to act as the council's representative and liaison officer with the league. Tho council decided to summon two vendors, concerning whom reports were submitted by the council's inspectors, to appear to show cause why their licences should not be cancelled.
