MATCH FOR FINLAY CUP MORRINSVILLE BEATS WAIPA SOME REPRESENTATIVE GAMES Rugby football competitions were continued in country centres of the Auckland Province on Saturday afternoon, when some representative matches were decided. The following results were forwarded by correspondents of the Herald:— Hamilton.—One of the most exciting games of the season was played on Rugby Park between Old Boys and Frankton, the latter team winning by 17 points to 15. After only five minutes of play Whittaker, an Old Boys forward, followed up smartly and secured possession from Frankton's fullback. Bachelor. He then cut-in to score. Lissette converted. From a line-out Whittaker dived over to score his second try, which was not converted. Frankton attacked and the Old Boys fullback fumbled when clearing. Tristram snapped, up and scored, i Shortly afterwards Frankton scored again. Griffiths, the speedy winger, sprinting from j half-way with a burst that left the defence ! standing. Frankton opened the second spell : briskly, the ball going out from Everest, to I Den 7. and Heeps. who scored. Lissette then 1 kicked a magnificent field iioal from a posi- i tion near half-way and fairly close to the 1 side-line. Te Awamutu.—Two representative games were played at Albert Park in good weather conditions. The Morrinsville B senior representative* played Waipa B seniors, and were beaten by 12 points to 8. Quin lucked a penalty goal, while Miller, S pence and Turney each scored a try for Waipa. Morrinsvilk's scorers were Clarkm and Polwnrt. eacb a try. and Polwart converted one. Ihe game was hard, with occasional flashes ot bright play. The junior representative match for the Clarke Cup. between Hamilton and Waipa, saw the visitors win by 13 points (tries by Simmons. Gilling and Collier. two of them converted by McCrail) to 3 (a try by Cruickshank). Matamata.—ln a Clarke Cup game for the junior championship of the Waikato, Matamata defeated /Cambridge comfortably by 12 points to 3. The horn? team was much superior in knowledge of the finer points of the game, but Cambridge had a big advantage in set scrums and m line-out play. The first half was very even, and Matamata crossed over with a lead of a ( :ry by Hopkins to 0. In the second half Roberts and Hughes added further tries, and Roberts kicked a penalty goal. Toward the close Garland scored a try for Cambridge. A senior trial game for Peace Cup Prospects was also played, and one of the be 3 matches of the kind held here resulted. Manukau.—The Hunua team retnined its lead in the Manukau Rugby Sub-union s competition, although Clevedon made a determined effort to defeat it. The competition this season has been the closest on record and great interest has been maintained. An interesting feature has been the unusually large number of drawn games. In the latest series. Sunday The Taranaki Rugby representatives defeated Wanganui by 19 points to 6. in the presence of (">OOO people, yesterday afternoon. The Taranaki backs and forwards dominated the game, except for a space in the second spell, when Wanganui saw more of the ball. Steere dived over to score from a forward attack, and a few minutes later McCashin took advantage of the bounce of the ball to race over This was Wanganui's total. Taranaki had an advantage in the first spell, and registered 11 points. C. Brown, Sullivan (2) and Ford ecoring tries, one each being converted by Brown and Collins. After lapsing for a time in the second spell Taranaki again took control, and a try was added by Edwnids. Wanganui played an even game, with no particular weakness, and no one being outstanding. Taranaki played with more vim and skill generally. Collins had no success at goal-kicking, but his _ line-kicking and fullback play was very fine.

Sunday By a margin of five points, scored in the last five minutes, Manawatu beat Horowhenua in a representative Rugby match at Levin yesterday afternoon, before an excellent attendance. The game was fast and open throughout. Manawatu having a slight advantage. The forwards were fairly evenly matched, but Manawatu's baxks displayed superior combination and more speed.
