WINTER EXHIBITION

LARGE CROWDS ATTEND ATTRACTIONS FOR TO-DAY MODEL AEROPLANE FLYING There were large attendances at the Auckland Winter Exhibition throughout the day on Saturday. Even larger c rowds patronised the show in the evening and stall-holders and sideshow proprietors reported exceptionally brisk business.

Gate receipts on Saturday amounted to £866, compared with £7Ol on the corresponding Saturday last year. The total increase over last year's receipts for the four days that the show has been open is £360.

With their numerous fascinating mechanical exhibits, the trade displays again attracted a great deal of atten-

tion. Striking originality has been shown in the lay-out of many of the stalls, and the fullest use has been made of modern lighting aids and methods.

Children formed a large proportion of the visitors on Saturday. Young folk were to be seen jostling their way to those booths where any free gifts or samples were being distributed, while most of the small boys who visited the exhibition left with their pockets and shirts bulging with bundles of leaflets and brochures dealing with every subject. During the afternoon and evening large numbers of people watched the Highland dancing competitions on the concert stage, while the model aeroplane flying competition proved, as usual, immensely popular. Although the many obstructions in the wharf sheds are not conducive to any recordbreaking performances by the midget machines, considerable interest is added to the proceedings by the presence of the "hazards."

The large duck pond, with mallard and prey ducks on aroused keen interest. Poultry breeders and fanciers were afforded a final opportunity of inspecting the poultry exhibits on "Saturday night, as the space will be occupied fry rabbits from this morning. Judging in the rabbit section wiil commence at 10 a.m., and all entries must be in place by that time. To-day there will be further free talking pictures, and in the evening there wiil be items by the Takapuna Citizens' Band, followed by a vaudeville entertainment, in which Miss Kathleen Boyle's pupils and Allamat, the magician, will take part. There will also be further model aeroplane flying contests.
