PASSING SHOWERS LIKELY COLD TEMPERATURES The weather report nnd forecast for New- Zealand, issued last evening bv the Government meteorologist, was a ' s follows;—A rather deep depression has been centred north-east of East Cape while an intense anti-cyclone extends from eastern Australia on to southern New Zealand. The indications are for moderate to strong southwesterly to south-easterly winr] s of gale force nt places in and north of Cook Strait, but gradually moderating. Seas moderate on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere rough. In the eastern Tasnian Sea, strong hut decreasing southerly to south-easterly winds; seas rough but later decreasing. The weather should be fine on the West Coast of the Sotth Island, elsewhere still cloudy and resettled with passing showers. Some heavy falls are likely between Cook Strait and East Cape. Temperatures will bo cold, with snow on some of the ranges of the North Island, but conditions should gradually improve, except on the east coast of the North Island. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST COLD, SQUALLY AND SHOWERY The Government, meteorologist issued to the llkhald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Strong south-westerly winds of gale force in places, but gradually moderating. The weather should be cold and squally with passing showers. Seas rough to high. WEEK-END WEATHER Auckland.—The weather was very changeable during the week-end. On Saturday a light breeze varied between south-east and north. A fog for about two hours early in the morning was followed by overcast conditions during the day, and heavy showers in the evening. Yesterday was fine, but a boister-' ous southerly wind made the conditions cold, the temperature at 4 p.m. being 54 degrees. The barometer continued low, but it rose slightly last evening. There was some sunshine in the morning, but the afternoon was mostly cloudy. Light easterly and south-easterly winds prevailed and rain set in at night. Yesterday was cold, dull and wet with a strong southerly wind. The maximum temperature yesterday was 46.8 degrees. Christchurch.—The weather was dull and misty over the week-end with a light north-easterly breeze. The barometer was high and steady. Dunedin. —Conditions on Saturday were dull and overcast. A light northeasterly wind prevailed and the maximum temperature was 51 degrees. Yesterday the sky was overcast and there was a light south-westerly breeze. In the afternoon light misty rain set in.
