OBITUARY

THE REV. E. 0. PERRY

The death has occurred of the Rev. Edward Ovenden Perry, of Kipling Avenue, Epsom, who was widely known as itinerant Presbyterian minister foi the North Auckland district for many years. He was 87 years of age and had been living in retirement for over 20 in England in 1848, Mr. Perry be<*an his ministry with tho Free Methodist Church. When tho union of the Methodist churches was accomplished, however, he joined the Preslnterian ministry. ,He came to New Zealand in 18S0 and carried out notable work, travelling through the most sparsely settled and badly roaded districts 'of the North in the course of his duties. He was associated with St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, Remuera, as an elder since his retirement and took nn active interest in the work of the church up to the last few months, when his health began to fail. Mr. Perry is survived by his widow, one daughter and two sons.

MR. D. S. MACLENNAN [by telf.gr.vph —own correspondent] GISBORXE, Saturday The death has occurred of Mr. Duncan S. Maclennan, aged "2. Mr. Maclennan was one of three brothers who had a distinguished dancing career in Scotland. His youngest brother, Mr. W. G. Maclennan, is still a prominent teacher in Edinburgh. The second brother, Mr. Willie Maclennan, after a prize-winning record in the British Isles, went to America, where he died. Mr. Duncan Maclennan was selected to dance before Royalty at the Coronation of King Edward, and his cousin and pupil, Sergeant-Major Maclennan, played before the Queen. Later Mr. Duncan Maclennan was prominent in Rothesay as a successful business man until tho outbreak of war, following which 110 came to the Dominion to teach dancing in Dunedin. Subsequently he lived in Wellington for a short time, and then came to Gisborne, where he soon made a name for himself in the profession. He is survived by his wife, who lives in Edinburgh, and two sons, one of whom is a medical practitioner in Edinburgh.

MR. J. KRIVAN [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT! PALMERSTON NORTH, Sunday The death has occurred of Mr. Joseph Krivnn, aged 97. Born in Pilson, Bohemia, and bv early occupation a minor, Mr. Krivnn took part in the Franco-Prussian campaigns and subsequently sailed from Hamburg in 1874 with his wife and four young children for New Zealand on the ship Terpsichore. When Mr. Krivnn brought his family to Pnlmerston North the settlement. comprised only three houses on the fringe of the bush, facing a mos-quito-infested swamp; Ho had since iived continuously in the town and district and was the first road contractor to the Government, in the Kiwiten area. Later he farmed a property at Fitzherbert Fast until he retired 45 years ago. Mr. Krivnn was predeceased by hTs wife, and of his surviving family the eldest son, Mr. Joseph Krivan, of Levin, is now 72 years old. Another son and four daughters are also living.
