»A NATIONAL MATTER" STATEMENT BY MINISTER THE EXAMPLE OF TE AROHA [from OUJt OWN coIIi?KST'ONDKXT] TK AROHA, Saturday Considerable interest in the action of a composite committee in supplying free milk to the le Aroha schoolchildren, was displayed by tlie Minister ol Agriculture, the Hon. C. li Macmillan. when the matter was brought to his notice recently. The Minister stated that the movement was worthy of all the assistance that could be given, and that he intended to briny; the matter before the Government with a view to making the free milk supply a national matter. In the event of the 'Jo Aroha committee finding its activities cm tailed through lack of funds, he would recommend that «i small subsidj be granted. IMPROVING NUTRITION HOT MILK AND COCOA [nv TKf,KG It A I'll —o W X CORRKSPOXDF.XTI GIS BORNE, Saturday A total of .300 children in the Gisborne and suburban schools are receiving daily rations of milk under the scheme for improving the nutrition of pupils whose family budgets are affected by unemployment. The scheme was initiated last year under aegis of, l)r. H. B. Turbitt, and owed much of its success to the financial assistance given by the Rotary Club and voluntarily. The administrative work on the p.ut of the Health Department's staff has been extended to embrace 'le Hapapa and Manga papa schools. In all the schools affected by the distribution, means have been established or are being arranged to heat the milk and serve it with cocoa, thus increasing its nutritive value. School staffs, which have co-operated with the Health Department's officers in the scheme, are enthusiastic about the results achieved last year, and are anxious to make the most of the winter " term's opportunities.
