ATTACK ON WOMAN
TAUMARUNUI SHOPKEEPER THEFT OF PURSE AND £ll ' [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAUMARUXUI, Sunday The proprietress of a gown shop in the Regent Theatre buildings, Taumarunui, Mrs. Hanl>s was attacked by an unknown assailant as she was leaving the premises on Friday night and was robbed of a purse containing £ll in banknotes and 2s 6d in silver. Mrs. Hanks, who left the shop by the back door leading into a yard, was struck by some person, who apparently had' been in hiding at the rear of the building. She was pushed into a pool of mud and her coat was pulled over her head. When she began to scream and struggle the assailant removed the coat from her head for an instant and forced mud into her mouth and eyes. Knocking Mrs. Hanks to the ground, the assailant covered her with the coat and departed. When she recovered a few minutes later, Mrs. Hanks found that her purse had been taken from her hand. The matter is being investigated by the police.
