INTEREST IN DOMINION MR. J. P. MOODABE RETURNS Statements that a large Australian motion picture combine might consider invading the New Zealand field were 7 discussed on Saturday by Mr. J- - P. Moodabe, managing director of Amalgamated Theatres, Limited, who , returned by the Mariposa after a ~ six weeks' visit to' Australia. The r combine, Mr. Moodabo said, was n one in which an important dis- - tributing firm was interested, and it had been announced that it was contemplating acquiring a circuit of - theatres in the Dominion. However, as far as he knew, the project had not been carried beyond the stage of preliminary discussions. Sir. Moodabe found picture theatres well patronised in Australia, and one distributing firm, Metro-Geldwyn-Mayer, had announced its intention of. building six new suburban theatres in ' Melbourne. Prices of admission were - much higher than in New Zealand, the "* cheapest seats in the majority of Australian cinemas being 2s.
