LOSS OF DISCOUNT
CHARGE FOR POWER LATE ARRIVAL OF CHEQUE [from our own correspondent 3 TE AROHA, Thursday The loss of a discount of £34 upon an electric power account was the subject of a letter received last evening by the Te Aroha Borough Council from the Thames Valley Dairy Company. The company wrote that this was the first time in its history that the account had not been paid by due date. The late arrival of the cheque at the council office had been due to an unfortunate oversight. The company hoped that in the circumstances the council would allow the discount. Some members pointed out that to allow the amount would be to establish a dangerous precedent and would cause the council to be inundated with similar requests. When a member moved that the discount be allowed it was discovered that notice of motion to rescind a previous decision would have to be given. This notice was then given. In the meantime the company's cheque for £34, given under protest, is to be held.
