SAFETY EQUIPMENT TWO CALLS IN A QUARTER [BV TELEGRAPH OWN correspondent] "WAIHI, Wednesday The question of proper provision for escape in eases of fire was raised in a letter received last evening by the Waihi Fire Board from a resident who resides above his shop. It was stated that neither the board nor the Borough Council had any authority in the matter, but Mr. W. Skegg. of Auckland, said he thought the council should pass a by-law ou the subject. The chairman, Mr. \V. Ellerington. said that it was possible that such matters were considered when applications for building permits were made to the council. Mr. J. Callaghan, a member of the Borough Council, s;i id he would bring the matter before the council. The brigade superintendent. Mr. \Y E. Roberts, reported that there had been only two calls to actual fires during the past quarter. The insurance on the buildings affected amounted to £2OO and the damage done to £l2. The figures for furniture were £2~>o and £lB3 respectively. One false alarm had been received.
