DEATH OF DR. SCHULTZ
SAMOAN GOVERNORSHIP INTERNED IN DOMINION BERLIN, June 21 The death is announced of Dr. Erich Schultz, who was the last German Governor of Western Samoa. Ho was interned in New Zealand during the Great War. The lato Dr. Schultz succeeded Dr. Solf as German Governor of Western Samoa in 1910. He had held office for four years when the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces landed and hoisted the British flag. Dr. Schultz was interned in Auckland for the remainder of the war, after which he returned to Germany. During his term as Governor lie was noted for the sympathetic manner in which he treated the natives. He in said to have used great wisdom and tact when the New Zealand forces landed. Although he refused to admit surrender, he urged his nationals to offer no resistance, thus avoiding bloodshed.
