TRAM TRAFFIC DELAY
SYMONDS STREET MISHAP BREAKING OF AN AXLE Tramway traffic was held up for about 17 minutes as a result of the breaking of an axle on an outwardbound Balmoral car in Symonds Street at 5.15 last evening. The mishap occurred near the junction of Khyber Pass Road, and the damaged tram was shunted across a "cross-over" on to the inward set of lines and was then taken down to Anzac Avenue. Traffic which normally would have travelled by way of Anzac Avenue used the Wellesley Street route until the damaged car could be removed. Owing to the mishap occurring at almost the peak of the rush hour period, a long line of trams was held up. An official of the Auckland Transport Board stated last night that it was very rarely than an axle of a tramcar broke.
