DROP DOWN SEWER SHAFT DEATH OF A WORKMAN / Christopher Wilson, aged 55, of The Causeway, Maroubra, says a Sydney newspaper, was killed recently when the cage in which he was about to descend ISOft: in a shaft at the Water Board's new sewer at Maroubra, got out of control, and plunged to the tunnel below. The cage had been in use in a shaft of the Coogee-Maroubra sewer, and during the morning several tons of rock had been conveyed to the surface. The cage was operated by means of a long hawser. Mr. /Wilson stepped into the lift to be lowered to the tunnel and his head had just disappeared below ground levci when the hawser snapped. The cage fell down the shaft and crashed on the rock bottom. It is believed that Mr. Wilson was flung from side to side of the shaft as the cage fell. Ambulance men had a difficult task in recovering'the body. They descended another shaft, and had to walk about half a mile through the tunnel. The body was then taken to the surface.
