EXPORT OF EGGS
INDUSTRY'S OPPORTUNITY CONFERENCE OF PRODUCERS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS WELLINGTON, Tuesday The New Zealand poultry industry conference was opened by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macniillan. Mr. Hutton, chairman of the Poultry Board, said the Poultry Producers' Federation represented some 16,000 producers, against 2400 in the old association. The conference would he asked to bring in rides and regulations and to appoint officers. Mr. A. J. Maclaine was appointed chairman of the federation pro tern, and Mr. J. N. McLean was similarly appointed secretary.^ Mr. Macmillan sai'd the bill, that had been passed gave thd" federation its foundation and if it wanted to widen it in the future the Government would help it to do so. New Zealand could export such large quantities of farm produce that there was obviously something wrong with the poultry, industry. If it had not been for the efforts of enthusiasts New Zealand" would have reached a position in which eggs would have to be imported to supply the domestic demand. Because of" that the Government had passed legislation to place the industry on a sound commercial basis. Mr. C. J. Peaks, of the department, said the eggs already exported had established a reputation.
