DEBATING CONTESTS
In the first round of the Athenaeum Cup debating contest held last night, a University team, comprising Miss Johnston and Messrs. Wriglcy and Richmond, defeated a team representing the Auckland Training College, which comprised Miss Newman and Messrs. McNieol and Martin, by 256 points to 242. The judge was Mr. H. Becroft. A team comprising Messrs. Clarke, Jeffreys and B. H. Kingston, representing the Junior Chamber of Commerce, beat a team from St, Johij'a College, which comprised Messrs. Heerdegen, Babbage and Fraser. Mr. D. Algie was the judge.
