AUCKLAND TRANSPORT BOARD
Sir, —With regard to the special committee of inquiry, while believing that inquiry is necessary, the writer is of the opinion that a committee of experts on transport should be appointed to conduct this inquiry and advise the board. To bring an expert from London, even if his fee was heavy, would be a wise expenditure. I feel confident that for the money so spent now, the Auckland public would save in future cost on transport an enormous amount. I am prepared to predict that such expert would, for one thing, condemn the Auckland Transport Board's policy of extending tramlines in favour of trolley buses, which are more flexible, being rubber-shod, are noiseless and not nerve-racking like tram wheels on steel rails; are more comfortable; do not require renewal of rails nor track maintenance and are a modern and economic form of transport. Anthony.
