CRIPPLED CHILDREN
ANNUAL GRANT DECLINED HARBOUR BOARD'S DECISION " I am very sympathetic toward this movement, but I do not think we should (inter into an annual contribution," said the chairman, Mr. C. G. Macindoc, at a meeting of tho Auckland Harbour Board yesterday, when a letter was received from the honorary secretary and treasurer of the Auckland branch of tho Now Zealand Crippled Children's Society. A request was made that the board should become an annual contributor to the society. The chairman added that the board's unauthorised expenditure was limited and many calls were made upon it. " While I am also sympathetic, I am of the opinion that it is not the function of local bodies to provide funds lor these objects," said Mr. J. Sayegh. Ho contended that the movement was one that should be supported by the Government. The board's first consideration must of necessity be tho requirements of the port. It was stated that the board had already contributed £IOO toward an endowment fund for crippled children. The request for an annu.il contribution was declined.
