PETITIONS TO HOUSE

PARLIAMENT'S DECISIONS COMPLAINT MADE AT DELAY Complaint of unreasonable delay on the part of the Government in dealing with petitions referred to it for favourable consideration by the Petitions Committees of Parliament was made last night by Mr. W. E. Parry, M.P. for Auckland Central. Prior to the rising of the House of Representatives at the close of last session the Government was asked whether the impending departure of the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Coates, would delay the consideration of petitions. Mr. Parry said. The House was given to understand bv Mr. Coates that cases referred to the Government by the committees were then being dealt with. "It appears now that nothing has been done," Mr. Parry said. "I have some petitions from my own electorate on which decisions are long overdue and the people concerned are in dire need of the relief recommended by the committees. Other members of Parliament recite similar experiences. It would seem that the answer to the House was given lightlv or that the Minister now responsible is not discharging his duty."
