A FIXED EASTER

COMMERCE CHAMBER'S MOVE CHURCHES IN AGREEMENT The Associated Chambers of Commerce desire to have an Act passed at an early date which would enable a fixed Easter to be brought into operation in the Dominion whenever it was adopted in England. Some critics of the chambers have apparently been under the impression that the Churches in New Zealand are hostile to a fixation of Easter, but the fact is, states Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the Auckland chamber, that before any representations were made to the Government by the Associated Chambers, the views cf Bishop Sprott, of the Wellington Ministers' Association (comprising all the Free Churches and the Salvation Army) and of the Roman Catholic Church were obtained. All were agreeable to. a fixed date for Easter. It was pointed out by Mr. A. G. Lunn at the last meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce that the date on which Easter is observed is not a fundamental question of Christian dogma, but that actually the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Western Orthodox Church have adopted different dates for this festival.
