FIGHTING MACHINES < BIG ORDERS PLACED STRIKING IMPROVEMENTS By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Received June 21, 5 5 p.m.) LONDON, June 20 The Daily Telegraph says the Air Ministry already has placed orders, of which two were for more than 150 machines. The orders include a multi-engined bomber of the most improved type, a new type of fourengined night bomber, a coastal reconnaissance machine and a new training aircraft. The Ministry's programme involves a 40 to CO per cent improvement in range, speed and ease of Control of the principal machines. It is urgentlj necessarv that the range of the day bombers* shall be at least 1000 miles and that of the heavy night bombers 2000 miles, that is 1000 miles each way. The speed of fighters in the next two years, says the paper, will be increased to between 240 and 275, or even 300 miles an hour.
