SUCCESS IN LIFE

A useful little book has been produced by Mr. Trevor Bain, of Auckland, just the sort of book to impart an invigorating impulse to all earnestly desirous of mnking a success of life, particularly those on the upward slope of years. "The More Excellent Way" is its title, and it is full of good counsel. Based on the sure belief that "every normal human being desires to become better day by day," it deals with those inner things that count for most in the struggle against low standards of character and achievement. Without literary pretensions, yet written in straightforward and cheerful style, it handles these things with a firmness of touch that is itself bracing. While not profound, it reveals a considerable acquaintance with mental and moral philosophy, and its positive counsels are enforced with a sympathetic knowledge of the difficulties besetting those troubled by failings in themselves more than by handicaps of circumstance. The central value of religion is emphasised and a. wholesomo outlook is kept throughout its hundred pages. Life is envisaged as what it may conqueringly become rather than for what it may yield of merely material profit. If it be pondered by its readers as earnestly as it has been fashioned by its writer, its evident mission of uplift will be fulfilled. " The More Excellent "Way," by Trevor G. Bain.
