TELEPHONE EXCHANGE
BASE AT AVONDALE URGED A decision to press for an automatic telephone exchange in tho vicinity of Avondale as a moans lox* providing for future development was reached at a meeting of tho \\ aiteniata County Council yesterday. In commenting on .a letter from tho New Lynn Borough Council asking for tho council's support, the chairman, Mr. W. A. Bishop, said he had conferred with representatives of the New Lynn Borough Council, the Henderson Tow n Board, and tho Glen Eden Town Board. As a result of their efforts a reduction in telephone charges beyond the base rate area had been granted. "This is very satisfactory, but it is not enough," said Mr. Bishop. "1 understand there is a possibility of tho establishment of an exchange, which would make a great difference to the district."
