SPORT FOR TO-DAY
TROTTING AT EPSOM FOOTBALL AND HOCKEY The first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's winter meeting at Alexandra Park is the principal sporting attraction arranged for to-day. Good fields are engaged and interesting racing may be anticipated. The meeting will be continued on Wednesday. Rugby enthusiasts are well catered for. Marist will meet Otahuhu on tho No. 1 ground at Eden Park at <3 p.m., while the main match at the Showgrounds will be between Manukau and Grammar Old Boys. Chief interest in the League code will he centred in tho match between Mount Albert and Richmond at Carlaw Park at 3 p.m. Marist and Ponsoubv will meet on the No. 1 ground at 1.30 p.m. Tho principal Association football match will be that between Abels and Thistle in the local semi-final of the Chatham Cup competition at Bland ford Park at 2.30 i).m.' In the senior grade hockey competition St. Luke's will meet Somerville at Remuera at 3 p.m. and Papatoetoo and Grammar Old Boys will play at Papatoetoo at tho same time. The third round of the Ballin Cup will bo plaved by members of the Titirangi Golf' Club, and the first round of tlio captain's prize tournament will bo decided at Glendowio. There will be a president's foursome medal competition at tho Auckland Club and a medal handicap at Maungakiekie. Programmes have been arranged by a number of cycling and harrier clubs and the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club's winter competitions will bo continued. Ihcro aro also a large number of basketball fixtures.
