WEATHER MAINLY FINE A FEW SCATTERED SHOWERS The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, was as follows: —An anti-cyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea, its centre being to the north. Pressure is rising over M the New Zealand area, but a fresh de- : v pression is developing over south-east-ern Australia. The indications are for south-westerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to "strong and gradually decreasing and turning northerly later in the southern half of the South Island. Seas rough at first north" of Farewell Spit and south of East Cape, but moderating, elsewhere smooth to moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CHANGEABLE, BUT IMPROVING The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the follow- - ing special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to fresh southwesterly to southerly winds. The weather should be changeable with a* few passing showers at first, but improving. Temperatures cold. Seaa rough but moderating on the west coast, smooth to moderate on the east coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —There was a decided improvement in the weather yesterday. Sunshine was experienced for a considerable part of the day, and the barometer rose rapidly. The temperature 9: at 4 p.m. was 58 degrees. There was a light south-westerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 47.8 degrees and the barometer rose steadily, the reading last evening being 30.05 in. Dunedin. —Cold and unsettled weather was experienced, the sky being overcast and threatening all day. The temperature at 8 a.m. was 09 degrees, | and the maximum for the day was 44 degrees.
