LATE REV. J. D. JORY
FUNERAL AT BIRKENHEAD 1 The funeral of the late Rev. J. D. Jory, which took place at Birkenhead yesterday afternoon, was attended by a large gathering of clergy and s3si* : ■ dents. The service at the house, conducted by the Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws and the Rev. E. D. Patchett, chairman of the Auckland district, was followed by a service in the Birkenhead l Methodist phurch, which was filled. The minister, the Rev. W. Gatman, presided, Scripture was read by the Rev. E. D. Patchett and prayer offered by the Rev. -J. Wrigley. In an impressive address, the Rev; George Frost paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Jory in Fiji and New Zealand. He possessed the esteem oj all communities in which he had laboured in New Zealand for the spirit of quiet persistency manifested in all his work, his wonderful helpfulness acd beautiful influence, qualities which were an index to a Christian character. The Revs. W. Gatman, E. T. Olds, F. J. Parker and R. B. Tinsley acted: 1 as pallbearers. The service at the grave* side was conducted by the Rev. W. Gat» man, assisted by the Rev. W. Blight. The funeral was attended* bf, the Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. , Mills, members and "former members of the Birkenhead Borough Council „ and representatives of other churches.
