JORDAN CUP GAME PARATA TROPHY TEAM RESULTS FROM THE PROVINCE Rugby football matches were continued in country centres of the Auckland Province on Saturday afternoon. The following results of matches were forwarded by correspondents of the Herald: — Tauranga.—The Tauranga Rugby Union's competitions were continued in fine weather. The Jordan Cup senior game between Matakana and Rangataua was keenly contested and resulted in a win for Rangataua by 9 to 8. The game was fast and open right through, and the backs on each side handled attractively. Scores for Rangataua were gained, by B. N.. Svenson, P. Ririnui, R. Parkinson, none being converted. P. A good run by Kussell, the Morrinsville half, took play to the visitors' goal-line. From a scrum just inside Taupm's twenty-five, G. Leeson broke through and passed to Vivian, who scored in the corner. Morrinsville backs broke following a forward tussle in front of the Taupiri goal-posts, and the ball came out to Robson on the wing, who scored wide out Taupiri took its turn at the attack and several times almost crossed Morrinsville's line. From a scrum in the home twenty-five, the ball came out to Grogan at first five-eighths, who beat several men to score a fine try. Soon afterwards Robson smothered a clearing kick by McKenzie, and Aitken, the Morrinsville captain, took the ball well and scored. Half-time sounded soon a.ferwa.rds with Morrinsville leading by 9 points to 3. Soon after the interval, Russell, the Morrinsville half, who was playing the best game on the field, took the ball from half- • way right over Taupiri's line, but was beaten for the force. From a line-out near the visitors' line, the ball came out to Aitken at centre, who scored in a handy position and converted his own try. McKenzie, the Taupiri fullback, retired shortly afterwards suffering from an injury to the hip. Play was up and down field for the rest of the game, which ended without further score. Morrinsville, 14. Taupiri, 3. In a curtain-raiser, Morrinsville District High School defeated Paeroa District High School by 30 points to 0. Other games resulted:— Juniors: United, 9. Te Awamutu.l—The Waipa Rugby Union's senior championship games were continued at Albert Park, and in addition a junior representative trial game and a third grade representative game, Waipa v. Cambridge, were played. In the seniors, Te Awamutu defeated Tokanui by 20 to 3, and Rovers defeated Waikeria by 30 points to 0. Neither game was very attractive. The junior trial match was also considerably below expectations. The A team won by 6 (tries by Wedt and Slater) to 0. Cambridge.—A Manukau senior team visited Cambridge during the week-end and on Saturday played a match with the local senior representative team. There 'was a record attendance to watch a splendid game, which was won by Cambridge by 9 points to 0. Although no score was registered in the first spell, Cambridge was definitely superior, and was unlucky not to score. The forwards were evenly matched, although Cambridge secured from the majority of the scrums, and gave the backs openings for a number of bright movements in which Stewart, Holmes and Peake were prominent. Early in the second spell Cambridge had Manukau hard pressed and from a scrum on the line Stewart sent out to Holmes to Hogan to Peake, who worked his way over. Cambridge. 3, Manukau, 0. A try looked likely for Manukau, when Miller broke away with Pearce in support and only the fullback to beat. However, Cambridge'® last line foiled the movement. Berridge and Miller were prominent in further Manukau rushes, but were well marked. A spectacular movement saw Camb»idge increase the lead, when Holmes cut out three men and sent Peake streaking away. Wilson nicely finished off the movement. Whangarei.—Fast, and entertaining Rugby football was provided at Kensington Park this afternoon, when the first representative match of tlie season was played between Northern Wairoa nnd Whangarei, resulting in a win for Whangarei by 21 points to 6. There was a largo attendance, and conditions were perfect. The scores scarcely indicated the relative merits of the teams, nnd in the first spell the game was very even, the score being, Whangarei. 6. Northern Wairoa, 3. The visiting forwards more than held their own in the first spell, especially in the open, their dribbling rushes being very effective. In the second spell the Whangarei backs played a very attractive, combined game, and at times were irresistible, while the forwards played with more dash and combination than in the first apell. Whongarei opened the game with a strong attack, which nlmost resulted in a try. J. Newlove. threequarter for Northern Wniroa, went off owing to a broken rib and waß replaced by Tito. In the earlier stages the game wns extremely fnst. From a good passing bout opened by Cooney, and participated in by Roos and R, White, Scarborough scored a try for Whangarei which was not converted. Shortly after, from a break away, the Northern Wairoa forwards carried the ball almost tho whole length of the field. Stanaway picking up to transfer to Ross, who scored for tlie visitors, the kick being unsuccessful. Within a few minutes Cooney obtained a penalty and landed a fine goal for Whangarei. Half-time followed, the score being: Whangarei, 6; Northern Wairoa, 3. Within two minutes of resuming, from a forward rush C. White scored a try for Whangarei. From a strong forward rush by tho Wairoa forwards Wardley scored a try which was not converted. From now on the Whangarei backs began working properly and tho score mounted rapidlv. Passing bouts, in which Weir, Ross, Cooney, Pickering and R. White were always prominent, became frequent. C, White, Pickering and Roos scored tries, none of which was converted, and Pickering kicked a penalty goal, the game ending:—Whangarei, 21; Northern Wniroa. 6. Of the seven tries scored during the game not one was converted. For Wniroa Panapa. as halfback, was the outstanding back, and Stanaway and Oonaghan also played good games, the tackling of the last-named being a feature. Jieeps picked up near his own twenty-five and soon transferred to J. Denz, who made a strong dash down the line to score. Snodgrass failed to convert. Frnnkton maintained its advantage and another try soon followed. From the scrum Newton passed out to Snodgrass, who cut in and scored. The latter also converted.
