BIG CHRISTCHURCH EVENT
RELAY RACE OVER 50 MILES [BY TE&EGRAFH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHUJICH. Sunday Cross-country runners in Christchurch carried out their most ambitious enterprise in the history of the sport in Canterbury by running a cross-country relay race from the sign of the Takahe, on Dyer's Pass Road, Cashmere 'Hills, to Akaroa, a distance of nearly 50 mibs. One hundred and twenty runners took part and they raced in teams of eight, the distance being divided into eight stages over a hilly course. The runners kept up a speed a little better than ten miles nn hour. The first five teams home were:—Christchurch A, 4h 49m; Prjesbyterian A, 4h 57m; Methodist, 5h 2m; Anglican, 5h 13m; University A, all 131 m.
