DEATH BY SHOOTING
SOCIETY WOMAN'S END THIRD DIVORCE PENDING (Received May 26, 5.5 p.m.) NEW MEXICO. May 25 Mrs. Emily Whitfield, formerly the wife of Mr. William H. Vanderbilt. was found dead at her ranch as the result of a bullet wound, which the police allege was self-inflicted. Deceased divorced Mr. Vanderbilt in 1928 and later married and divorced Mr. Sigourney Thayer, a theatrical producer. It is suggested that unhappiness over her impending divorce from her third husband, Mr. Raoul Whitfield, an author, caused her to commit suicide. Mrs. Whitfield was a noted New York society beauty. She was about 33 years old.
