MYSTERIOUS FIRE
COUNTRY GROCERY STORE EXPLOSIVES AND BENZINE [from OUR OWN" correspondent] PUTARUKU. Saturday An alleged attempt to destroy by firo a grocery store which is being erected at Tokoroa, 14 miles from Putaruru, was made on Thursday night. Eh o building is being constructed near the post office for Mrs. \. Z. J. Cole, of Tokoroa, and is almost completed. The fire was first noticed by Mi". • Hakes, who immediately summoned assistance. Five men entered the building and found a loose pile of wood burnin*' in the centre of the kitchen, from the door extended about 20ft. of tune fuse leading to some explosive substance beneath the wood, which was saturate with benzine. Neighbours were able extinguish the outbreak with buckets or water before much damage was done. The building was not insured. Detective Belton, of Hamilton, a Constable J. T. Murphy visited i oko + r , on Fridav. A previous building on same site was destroyed by hre. an about a year ago a shop owned by Air*. Cole was entered, a large quantity or goods being stolen. •
