TE PUKE NEWS
A very successful social, organised by St. John's Ladies' Guild, Te Puke, was held in the Parish Hall. Musical items were rendered by Miss Watson and Mrs. Todd and a recitation by Mrs, Olney. Several fancy dances were also greatly appreciated. A competition, " The Fishes Wedding," was won bv Mi ss Berta Hickson. Tho accompaniments were played by Mrs. Randell. At the Paengaroa Women's Institute meeting it was decided to hold a social evening to raise funds to send a delegate to Auckland to the conference in July. A troup of Maori girls from the Maketu district entertained members with several pois, native songs, etc., which were much enjoyed. A novel competition, that of guessing tho weights of the committee members, resulted in much merriment, Mrs. Mac Donald being the winner. The bring and buy stall did a fair trade. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames Smith, Seal, Jackson and Collins. Many friends gathered at the Papamoa Hall, To Puke, on Friday night to bid farewell to Aliss Phyllis McCullough, who is to bo married shortly and will live in Waiuku. Tho social took the form of a gift evening. The prize for the Public Notices " competition was awarded to Miss Margaret Abbott. Mrs. Alajor's two songs, "In tho Valley of tho Moon," and " Atother Alachree," were much appreciated, while two recitations, by Air. Orr Taylor, "Pals" and "I Forget," were very successful. Mrs. Clnircher gave two recitations, and a broom dance caused great amusement. Community singing was very popular.
