CATTLE IMPORTATIONS
EMBARGO RESTRICTIONS SUPPORTERS OF REMOVAL [FP.OiI OTB own correspondent] Hamilton, Sunday The question of the removal of the restrictions on the importations of livestock from Countries affected with foot and mouth disease was debated at a meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Milking Shorthorn .Breeders' Association. There was divergence of opinion on the subject. Colonel Matson, of Kawhia, spoke in favour of easing the restrictions on the grounds that the virus of the disease would never be introduced into New Zealand in the blood stream of animals. Foot and mouth disease would probably come in bran or straw or through birds. Tourists, also, were likely carriers. The meeting decided to follow the opinions of the officers of the Department of Agriculture, and agree to the lifting of the restrictions.
