COUNTY COUNCIL'S FUNDS
GRATIFYING IMPROVEMENT [bt TELEGRAPH OWN* correspondent] GISBORXE, Saturday The chairman of the Wairoa County Council, Mr. A. G. Nolan, stated in the annual meeting of the council that its financial position had shown a further improvement as a result of the year's operations. The county fund account was in a better position at the end of the year to the extent of £4435, a debit balance of £3685 having been replaced by a credit balance of £749. The improvement, Mr. Nolan said, had been brought about partly by a better rate collection, which was assisted by the Government making available to ratepayers a special rebate of 12} per cent on all rates, and partly by the fact that no exceptional expenditure had to be met for repairing flood damage.
