The weekly quotations are based oti actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfield market and/or London stores. They are compiled by the Quotations Committee, Smithfield. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship | values one farthing per pound should j be deducted from the prices quoted i above. Quotations given represent the I average for the week, and are not i selected lines, but for parcels fairly : representative of the bulk of shipments i now on offer. PRICES COMPARED NEW ZEALAND PARITY The equivalent New Zealand parity of the published Smithfield market prices, on the basis of a prime woolly j lamb of 341b. weight, is as follows, according to figures of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board: — N.Z. The cost of killing, freezing and placing on board steamer is based on a charge of .575 d per lb. Allowance is made for present skin values and includes exchange. LAMB MARKET IMPROVE^ SHORTAGE OF BEEF The following cablegrams regarding i the Smithfield market at the close of i business last week have been received: — j New Zealand Meat Producers' Board: ; —Lambs: The market is firmer, with j prices decidedly better. The tone of the j | market and consumption continues good. | Mutton: Wethers and ewes are firmer, j in sympathy with lambs, but the de- j mand is quiet. Beef: The market is j firmer, owing to short spot stocks and : better prices of Argentine chilled beef, j Porkers: The market is easier, owing | to decline in demand. Baconers: The j market is steady, and there is a good demand for forward delivery. Bank of New Zealand:—Wethers: The market is firm. Ewes: The market is quiet and unchanged. Lambs: The market has improved, and the demand is likely to continue. Values are: Wethers, light, 3jd to 4j|d per lb.; heavy, 3d to 3£d; ewes, 2jd to 3sd; lambs, twos, 6jld to 7d; eights, 6gd to 7d; fours, 6Jd to 6|d; seconds, 6d to 6}d. NEW ZEALAND BREWERIES DIVIDEND RATE UNCHANGED A jinal dividend of 3} per cent, making 7 per cent for the year, is recommended by the directors of New Zealand Breweries, Limited.
