GERMANY PREPARING
Sir, —Mr. Baldwin admits that his advisers and himself were completely misled concerning the enormous increase in the number and fighting strength of the aeroplanes actually constructed by Germany in the past six months. Mr. Winston Churchill said, "The newlvcreated German Air Force contained the largest proportion of long-distance bombers in the world." Herr Hitler would have us believe that Germany's huge preparations for war are all for the purpose of defence. He has written a book, "Mein Kampf," which shows he is obsessed by the determination that Germany shall rule in Europe, and the first step is "the annihilation of France." In this book Hitler further describes France as "the mortal enemy of our country," and writes of "the preparations necessary for a settlement with France," and of "the final result being the chance of overthrowing our most bitter enemy," and of "gathering together for a final and active settlement with France ... to bring the eternal wrestle between ourselves and France to a close. But always with the condition that Germany really sees in the annihilation of Franco only a means of finally giving our people opportunities of expansion in another place" (Russia). Here are the true reasons for the feverish preparations for war by Hitler and Goering in Germany, and we are emulating the ostrich if wo deliberately shut our eyes and refuse to see them. J.
