OBITUARY

MR. JOHN TEDDY [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Sunday The death occurred at Ohaupo on Friday of Mr. John Teddy, at the age of 57" years. Mr. Teddy was born in Idaho, United States, and arrived in New Zealand as an infant. His parents settled in Thames and later they went to Ohaupo. Mr. Teddy took up farming in the Ohaupo district 38 years ago. He was keenly interested in racing and trotting, and was a prominent owner of successful trotting horses, including Nut Ansel, Rotomanuka, Anselin and Anseline. Mr. Teddy is survived by his wife and an adult family of nine.

MRS. LYDIA KAYE An old resident of Auckland, Mrs. Lvdia Kaye, died recently at her home in Richmond Road, Ponsonby, after a short illness. Mrs. Kaye, who had nearly attained her 80th year, was born at Onehunga. Her parents, C a P* tain and Mrs. Thomas Ninnis, left Cornwall in the pioneering days of Auckland, Captain Ninnis having been engaged to undertake copper mining operations at Kawaii Island, .then owned by Sir George' Grey. When the venture came to an end, he settled with his family in the Manukau and Waiuku districts. Among Mrs. Kaye's memories were journeys to Onehunga- during the Wnikato War, when the and families of settlers were often in danger from native raiding parties. She married first Mr. Robert Bent, of the Bank of New South Wales, who at his death was manager for the hank at Ivnikonra. Her second husband was Mr. Robert Kaye, a postal official, who predeceased her by six years. Mrs. Kayo at various times resided at Auckland, Napier, Kaikoura, Wostport, Timaru and Nelson. She leaves two sons, Mr. A. F. Bent, clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Blenheim, and Mr. R. L. Kayo, assistant Public Works engineer at Stratford. A daughter died in infancy.
