MESSAGES OF THANKS GOVERNOR-GENERAL REPLIES Messages of thanks for the hospitality shown by the people of New Zealand to the officers and men of the Japanese Naval Squadron during their recent visit have been received by the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, from both the officer commanding the squadron and the Minister of Navy, Tokio. That from Pear-Admiral K. Nakamura read as follows: —"On leaving New Zealand waters I extend our sincere thanks for warm hospitality of authorities and people under Your Excellency's administration. Wishing good health to you and prosperity to Dominion and that the friendly relations between our two nations should be ever closer." Lord Galway has sent the following reply to this message:—"l thank you for your telegram, which I much appreciate. The visit of the Japanese Training Squadron was welcome to the people of New Zealand as affording them an opportunity of giving expression to the cordial feelings of friendship which they entertain toward Japan and the people of the Japanese Empire. On behalf of the Government and people of this Dominion I wish you and your officers and men a pleasant voyage and a safe return to your country." The other message has been received by His Excellency from Admiral Osumi, Minister of Navy, Tokio: —"I wish to express the sincere thanks of the Japanese Navv and myself to you and, through yoiu to the authorities and people of New Zealand for the very cordial reception extended to the officers and men of our training squadron on the occasion of its recent visit." The following telegram was despatched by Lord Galway to the British Ambassador at Tokio, for transmission to Admiral Osumi: —"Will you please thank the Minister of Navy, Tokio, for his kind telegram to me, and assure him that it gave the Government and people of New Zealand very much pleasure to welcome to this Dominion Pear-Admiral Nakamura and officers and men of Japanese Training Squadron. We hope that they enjoyed their stay and that they have carried away pleasant recollections of their visit. A radiogram in reply to the farewell message of Pear-Admiral Nakamura was despatched to the Japanese flagship Asama by the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, on Saturday. MESSAGE TO MINISTER HOSPITALITY APPPECIATED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday The following telegram has been received by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Sir Alexander Young, from Pear-Admiral Nakamura, officer in charge of the Japanese training squadron which visited Now Zealand last week: —"Please accept our hearty thanks for your warm hospitality and the enthusiastic welcome shown us during our visit to New Zealand. Wishing every happiness to you and prosperity to the Dominion."
