FARMERS' CONFERENCE
DISCUSSIONS CONTINUED ELECTION OF OFFICERS The provincial conference of the Farmers' Union was continued in Auckland yesterday, the principal business being tho discussion in committee of a series of remits concerning union administration. On account of the annual convention of the Country Party being held last night, there was no evening session of the conference. Before business commenced in the morning, a short address was delivered by Mr. W. Doidgo, until recently a director of the Beaverbrook Press. He urged farmers to support any movements aiming at the establishment of free trade between Great Britain and New Zealand.
Strong support was given by the conference to an executive remit urging that all the proceeds of petrol and tyre taxation should be devoted to roading purposes, thus reducing the county rate burden. It was pointed out that the union was opposed to any increase in motor taxation, believing that the present levies were adequate. The following officers were elected: — President, Air. H. 0. Mellsop; vicepresidents, Messrs. H. M. liushWorth, M.P., and J. H. Furniss; executive. Messrs. It. H. Feisst, It. Harrison, A. E. Lambert, C. J. Pierce and A. C. A. Sexton; delegates to Dominion conference, Messrs. J. H. Furniss, A. E. Lambert, A. B. Moore, F. C. Roberts, A. E. Robinson, H. M. Rush worthy A. C. A. Sexton, V. Simms and A. Topham; honorary treasurer, Mr. A. McConaughy. . Dr. T. Kagawa, the Japanese religious and social leader, will address the conference at 9.30 this morning. About ao remits remain for consideration, and it is anticipated that the conference will end during the afternoon.
