VALUELESS CHEQUE

CHARGE AGAINST SALESMAN SECOND INFORMATION LAID Two charges of obtaining money by means of valueless cheques wero made in the Police Court yesterday against Valentine Charles Blake, aged 39, radio salesman. He was charged that on April 24, at Wanganui, he obtained a pair of slippers and £9 14s 6d by means of a valueless cheque, and that at Auckland on May 10 he obtained £f> by similar means. Evidence was given by Alexander Watt, licensee of tho Victoria Hotel, that accused stayed at'his, hotel under tho name of E. Borham, stating that the hotel had been recommended him by a friend in Wanganui. On May 10 lie tendered a cheque for £5, which was cashed, but was subsequently dishonoured. Detective Mahood read a statement from accused who admitted the second charge, on which he was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. On the first he was remanded to nppear at Wanganui on May 30.
