FATAL ACCIDENTS
AMERICAN WAKSHIPS TWO COME INTO COLLISION CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE NAVAL AIRMAN DROWNED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May 13. 5.5 > p.m.) HONOLULU. May 12 Two fatal accidents have marred the naval operations in Hawaiian waters. Lieutenant Mathias Wyatt was drowned when an aeroplane he was piloting crashed in the ocean after taking off from the deck of the Saratoga. Richard Chadwick, a gunner's mate, was killed, and three sailors were injured when the destroyers Sicard and Lea collided during a night patrol against a mythical submarine attack. Prompt action by an officer saved the Lea from sinking and enabled her to proceed into harbour under her own power. The Sicard was towed by a minesweeper. The Lea cut almost to the Sicard's wardroom quarters. Admiral J. M. Reeves announced today that the naval air squadron had safely reached its destination and was executing its mission, but the identity of the destination and other details have been withheld.
