WANGANUI MEETING

ARRIVAL OF VISITORS SEVERAL AUCKLAND HORSES BRITISH COLUMBIA'S FORM [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] WANGANUI. Monday The winter racing season will be advanced another stage on Thursday, when the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting opens The, fixture is creating keen interest. and a number of visiting horses are already on the scene. No work of much importance was registered on the local tracks this morning, most of the trainers hcing content to give their horses useful exercise, with more solid tasks left for to-morrow morning. However, one of the visitors, British Columbia dashed over four furlongs in taking style, hitting out freely. British Columbia gained minor placings at each start at Hnwera so that little improvement on that form would be required to find him returned a winner. Among the visiting horses who arrived to-da.v were Trishna, Queen Nona. Eurapae and Rcival Peak Trishna, who claims an engagement in the Empire Handicap on Thursday, ran second to Ladv Ronald in the Mcßae Handicap on the first day at Hawera, and on the second finished third to Ruri and Carfex. Trishna looks well Eurapae, from the same stable, showed a good deal of pace to lead for about six furlongs in the Tawhiti Hack Handicap at Hawera. only to run wide at the straight entrance and ha beaten into fourth place Queen Nona, another Auckland district candidate, is engaged in the Borough Hack Handicap to be run on Thursday, but she will have to improve on her Egmont display to have a chance of getting in the money. Royal Park was picked up at Waverlev on the journey down from Taranaki. This Royal Divorce mare carries the colours of Mr. J L. Fogarty, of Waverley, and is to contest the Trial Handicap on Thursday In this event it is rather remarkable to find a winner. Lady Cheval, on the same mark as Royal Peak, both being on the minimum. At Waipukurau on Easter Monday, Lady Cheval cleared out from Royal Mimic, who won at Hastings last week, and at the finish had a margin of three lengths in her favour, yet on Thursday she vrill be in receipt of weight from Dawn Princess, Happy Hunting and Evasion, while on the same mark are found Hard Times, Minos, Tupeotu and Royal Peak Lady Cheval may not prove equal to filling a place in this event, but the handicapper has either taken a risk or has overlooked her winning performance Acceptable was scratched for all engagements at the meeting at 9.30 a.m. to-day.
