DAIRYING IN NORTH

INCREASED PRODUCTION AMPLE SUPPLY OF FEED [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Monday There has been a material decline in the milk supply from the dairy herds during the past few weeks, but the season has been a remarkably good one and the production of butter very large. Most herds hare been milking for nine months and some farmers are now drying off their herds. The growth of grass ; 'throughout the North during the season has been phenomenal. There is a plentiful supply of feed almost everywhere and prospects for winter feed are very good. In those areas which suffered so much from the series of floods early in the year and in March the position is not so satisfactory. These areas have not sufficiently recovered to provide any great quantity of feed for winter use and it will be late in the spring before they will be of material advantage to the settlers concerned. All classes of stock are. looking in very good condition. The supplies of butter-fat to the dairy factories are well up to those of the previous year, and in several instances considerably higher. In at least two of the large factories in North Auckland the increase in production this year is nearly 200 tons. The large increases for March and April greatly contributed to this satisfactory position.
