AUSTRALIAN ROWERS EIGHT-OARED CHAMPIONS THIRD SUCCESSIVE WIN TURNER'S SCULLING TITLE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 12, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 12 For the third year in succession New South Wales won the King's Cup for the eight-oared championship of Australia, and Turner (New South Wales) established a record performance by winning the Australian sculling championship for the fourth year running. The events were rowed on the Nepean River at Penrith yesterday in fine weather. Following are the results:— King's Cup (three miles). —New New South Wales, 1; Western Australia, 2; South Australia, 3. Then followed Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland. Won by two-thirds of a length. Time, 16m. 20 l-ss. New South Wales led at the quartor mile and after that fought out the issue with Western Australia, with South Australia a close third. For two miles there was practically nothing between the two leading crews and until the last quarter of a mile South Australia was still within striking distance. The heavier New South Wales crew managed to draw away slightly in a final burst, but Western Australia fought gamely and the local crew was fully extended to win. Sculling Championship of Australia (2J miles). —H. Turner (New South Wales), 1; C. Peppier (Victoria), 2; C. Slaughter (Queensland), 3. H. Wilkinson (Tasmania) was fourth. Won easily by 48 seconds, with three-quar-ters of a length between second and third. Time, 16m. 36 3-ss. Turner never looked like losing.
