ABYSSINIAN PROTEST ALLEGED AGGRESSION COLONIAL EXPANSION ROME ALLEGATIONS DENIED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 12. 5.5 p.m.) Times C.ihle LONDON. May II The Addis Ababa correspondent of the Times states that the Abyssinian Government has protested against the recent statements of the Italian I. nder-Secretary for the Colonies, Dr. Lessona, and Senator Schanzer. It denies that inhabitants of Abyssinia are treated barbarously, and contrasts the country's pacific attitude with Italy's warlike preparations. The Ethiopian menace to the Italian colonies is described as "all a fable," . designed to make the world believe that Italy's preparations are defensive, whereas, on the contrary, they are aggressive, in pursuance of the Italian policy of colonial expansion. The Abyssinian Government also protests against Italy seeking to justify her territorial aims on civilising grounds. It adds that, contrary to Italian pretensions, there is no Abyssinian problem, and if there were, it would not be Italy's business to solve it, especially by forcible and illegal means.
