TEACHER VINDICATED
VERDICT OF A JURY CONVINCED OF INNOCENCE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday Without retiring, the jury in the case against Herbert John Craig Parker, a teacher in Petone Central school, returned a verdict of not guilty on eight charges of indecent assault on girl pupils in February last. Evidence was given by eight girls concerning the alleged acts, which they stated occurred mainly during reading lessons and in the checking and marking of lessons. Five other girls who had been in Parker's class the previous year also gave evidence. The defence was a complete denial. The headmaster, Robert Cole, said the statements of some of the witnesses were unreliable, and he was thoroughly convinced that the charges were not true. In giving the verdict, the foreman said the jury were unanimously of the opinion that Parker was innocent.
