BULLS FOR AUSTRALIA

POLLED HEREFORDS SOLD NOTED SIRES EXPORTED Two important sales of Polled Hereford bulls have been made on behalf of the Gis ! borne breeder, Mr. F. E. Humphreys, by Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. Royal Gem 36th has been sold lor 150 guineas to a Queensland breeder anci Royal Gem 37th for 120 guineas to a Tasmanian breeder. These are the first bulls of their breed to be exported from New Zealand to these States. Queensland has been breeding Polled Herefords for twenty years past, but in the case of Tasmania, Royal Gem 37th will be the first bull of the Polled: Hereford breed to be importedBoth bulls are outstanding types. They are direct sons of the original imported sire of the breed brought to New Zealand from North America •in Royal Gem and the dams of the two bulls are fu'll sisters. Royal Gem, now a seven-year-old bull, has proved a wonderfully prepotent sire in the Wilencote Stud. He won first prize as a three-year-old at the New Zealand Royal Show. He has not appeared in the sliowring in recent years but he has made a reputation as a breeding; sire tlbat is quite outstanding. Royal Gem 36th is a particularly thick, well-grown bull of the earlymaturing type. Royal Gem 37th who is a month younger is not quite up to the name size but is a short-legged, compact and blocky bull of grand colour. Both are descended from the famous breeding; cow, Bella 74th, whose daughter by President Wilson (imp.), Homqbush Royal Princess, has won many prizes, championships and reserve championships
