RUGBY FOOTBALL

OPENING OF CHAMPIONSHIP PONSONBY PLAYS UNIVERSITY KEEN CONTEST ANTICIPATED The Auckland Rugby Union's 1935 season will commence to-morrow afternoon, when matches in six grades will be played. The senior attraction at Eden Park will be the game between Ponsonby and University. In view of the forthcoming tour of the All Blacks great interest will be taken in the play of Bush and Caughey, of University, and F. and D. Solomon, of Ponsonby, Bush played in the forwards last season, but is now back again in his former position at fullback. F. Solomon makes, a welcome reappearance after an absence for the greater part of last season through sustaining a knee injury. His younger brother played at live-eighths for the North Island against the South at Dunedin last year. Both: Ponsonby and University play bright, open football and a fast and spectacular contest is assured. It should be a fitting opening to what promises to be a great season.
