HEN EGGS DEARER GOOD SUPPLIES OF FISH A rise of Id a dozen to 2s 3d for hen eggs is the principal change in the retail prices of foodstuffs during the past week. Duck eggs have become scarcer, but values are the same. Supplies of fruit and vegetables have been good, but there has been only a fair demand since the Easter holidays. Fiji bananas in sound condition are now realising <kl to 5d a pound, slightly higher rates than previously. Outdoor grapes are no longer obtainable, but the hothouse variety is selling from Is 6d to 2s 6d a pound. The prices of cabbages have been greatly reduced and they are now realising from 4d to 8d each. All varieties of fish have been in good supply and the demand has been brisk. Values, however, have remained unaltered. Prices are:— FRUIT Apples, cookers, P. Barry's, 3d a lb; Keiffers, 3d a lb; pears.
