ENGINEER'S DEATH

MR. WILLIAM CUL.ILEN EX-GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] "WELLINGTON. Thursday The death has occurred of Mr. William Cullen, formerly chief Government inspector of machinery, chief surveyor of ships and chief examiner of engineers, at the age of M years. Mr, Cullen was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and was educated at St. John's Grammar School, Hamilton, Scotland. He was apprenticed at the works of David Rowan, marine engineers, Glasgow, and from ISM to 15)00 was in the service of lihe Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. He then joined the service \o|i the Taranaki Producers' Freezing Company. In 1904 he was appointed a Government inspector of machinery and surveyor of ships, becoming senior officer at the head office in 1922 and chief of staff in 1924. He retired in 1929,
